"Artifact of the Week"
This week's featured artifact:
Decorating Easter eggs is a long standing tradition practiced for centuries. There is evidence that many cultures dyed and decorated eggs using a variety of techniques. The Pennsylvania Dutch, German immigrants and their descendants dyed eggs with onion skins and scratched designs in the surface. Here is an example of a “scratch egg” and a cast iron stand, patented in 1943, to hold an egg and six bottles of paint. It allowed you to rotate and decorate your egg with perfect stripes.
