Aspiring young actors and actresses from York Little Theatre, who
wrote the skit "The Drama of York Town," a story about Continental
Congress' nine-month stay in 1777-1778, will perform it at the Colonial
Courthouse. Saturday and Sunday: 10 am -noon - 2 pm.
Mary Lamanteer, illustrator of the children's book, will participate
in storytime in the yard of the Gates House and Plough Tavern on Sunday
at 1 pm. Afterwards, she will be signing books at the YCHT booth.
Jim McClure will sign his book Nine Months in York Town on Saturday
from 11 am - 1 pm at the YCHT booth.

Opening of Celebrate York Exhibit

Exhibit description: Celebrate York is a star spangled exhibition
that will give insight and examples of how York, Pennsylvania celebrates
its heritage. The exhibit will center around sixteen large oil paintings
that were commissioned for use in the 150th anniversary celebration
of the Articles of Confederation in 1927. The paintings were used
as street decorations and portray various local and national figures.
A large as life painting of "The Spirit of 76" by York artist, Ernst
Zimmerman will backdrop a ten foot tall model of the Colonial Courthouse.
Included in the exhibition will be banners, flags, commemorative pieces,
musical instruments such as fifes, drums, and brass, historic building,
bottles and flasks, models and many more interesting and curious objects
that all tell the story of celebrations past.

complex. The York County Bar Association's theatrical group, The Bar
Stools, will perform an original 30-minute comedy entitled "First
Capitol?" at the Colonial Courthouse, 205 W. Market Street, York.

treaties, the Treaty of Amity and Commerce and the Treaty of Alliance.

independent nation, but also assured France's essential military and
naval support of the American cause. Additionally, Justine Landis,
Curator of Decorative Arts and Historic Houses, will present the French
influence on American culture, including paintings, clothing and
furniture. |

Hourly tours will highlight the signing of the French
treaties, the Treaty of Amity and Commerce and the Treaty of Alliance.
In these first foreign treaties, France recognized the Colonies as an
independent nation and provided essential military and naval support.

A Revolutionary War encampment will be set up on the
grounds of the Colonial Courthouse. Interpreters, portraying Colonial
soldiers and townspeople, will demonstrate the numerous influences the
French have had on the American Army and way of life. Activities
include firing exhibitions with French muskets, cooking, and kids'
crafts and games. Free.

Zion UCC will reenact the funeral of Philip Livingston,
a signer of the Declaration of Independence who died while serving in
the Second Continental Congress in York Town.
The German Reformed Church of York, a predecessor to
Zion UCC, conducted the original funeral in June of 1778.
Visitors are encouraged to wear Colonial attire and
invited to enjoy refreshments after the service.
