Reservations for An Evening with David McCullough

Reservations are now being taken for an historic evening with David McCullough, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian, who will be in York on November 15th in celebration of the 225th anniversary of the adoption of the Articles of Confederation. Corporate tables of 8 are available for $1,500, and include an autographed copy of McCullough's book John Adams, and recognition in the evening's program and on the Trust's website.

Reservations for individual tickets may be placed using the Order Form found in this issue of the Chronicle. Checks should be made payable to York County Heritage Trust/NMYT. Individual tickets cost $150, and approximately $75 of the ticket price may be considered as a tax deduction. Approximately 250 tickets have already been sold. The proceeds from the evening's events are being used to underwrite the education kits.

The evening begins with a reception at the York County Heritage Trust's Historical Society Museum, 250 East Market Street, where an exhibition of original documents and letters related to the Articles and the American Revolution will be on display. A special "colonial" dinner, featuring foods from the 1700's with a 2002 flair, will follow at the Yorktowne Hotel. Mr. McCullough's after-dinner presentation will focus on the period of 1777 and 1778, a trying time for both the new nation and the citizens of York Town. Mr. McCullough will provide his perspective of the adoption of the Articles of Confederation and the several other significant events that occurred during that period.

Glatfelter is the primary sponsor for the evening, which is being organized by the November 15th Committee of the Nine Months in York Town Task Force, as part of an on-going celebration of York's important role in the shaping of the government of the United States. Other activities include a Revolutionary War encampment, an interfaith celebration of the First National Day of Thanksgiving, and numerous performances and programs by various agencies of the Cultural Alliance of York County.
