Statewide Magazine Features York County's Revolutionary War History Nine Months in York Town

Pennsylvania Legacies, the Newsmagazine of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, features Continental Congress' nine-month stay in York in 1777 - 1778 in the May 2003 issue. Numerous articles review what life was like in the small market town of York, then known as York Town, how the delegates adjusted to life in such a rural environment life, and how the decisions Congress made while convening in York Town affected the future of the United States. Local historians who submitted articles for the publication include: James McClure, author of the book Nine Months in York, wrote the article "The Continental Congress in York Town." - more - Statewide Magazine page 2 of 2 Charles Glatfelter, professor emeritus of history at Gettysburg College, contributed "The Continental Congress Meets a German Town." June Lloyd, library and archives director of the York County Heritage Trust, wrote about the Conway Cabal in the article "Beware of Your Board of War." John Altman, assistant professor of political science at York College of Pennsylvania, compares two historic documents in his article, "The Articles and the Constitution: Similar in Nature, Different in Design." More than 1500 members of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, including many historical societies and libraries, will be receiving copies of the magazine. "Nine Months in York Town" is a celebration of the Continental Congress' stay in York 225 years ago.
