First National Thanksgiving Day Celebration - Wednesday, December 18, 2002

Christ Lutheran Church - 29 S. George Street, York 854-5589 7 pm
Colonial Liturgy - Evening Prayer with Advent hymns from the era of the Articles of Confederation.

Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist - 140 North Beaver St., York 848-1862 7 pm
Evening Prayer will be read and a meditation will be offered. 10 am service: Celebrate the Holy Eucharist. This service of Thanksgiving will include prayers for our leaders, especially those early national leaders who invited us to pause and give thanks. The church building, one of the early churches built in York, will remain open during the day for visitors. Visitors will find in the nave of the church one of the Pennsylvania Liberty bells.

First Moravian Church - 41 N. Duke Street, York 843-2239

7:00 - 8:00 pm: Christmas Putz
The Putz is a twenty-minute sight and sound experience featuring Biblical narrative, traditional hymns and 15 scenes telling the story of the birth of Christ. Brass choir of the Covenant Moravian Church will play Moravian Chorals.

First Presbyterian Church - 225 E. Market Street, York 843-8041 8:00 pm
Abenmusik Concert: Early American Christmas
Featuring the John Calvin Singers singing the music of 18th century American composer, William Billings, as well as other seasonal selections.

Heidelberg United Church of Christ - 47 W. Philadelphia Street, York 854-7125 6 - 8:30 pm
Open House including an organ concert featuring carols from the 18th Century, historic tours of the church, a Kids Christmas Film Festival, and refreshments.

The Noor Mosque - 334 S. George Street, York 843-3162 6 - 9 pm
Open House at York's first Mosque, established in 1984.

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of York - 925 South George St., 845-8212 6 - 9 pm
Open house and tour of the church featuring a display of Unitarians and Universalists active in the early formation of this country.

Quaker Meetinghouse - 135 W. Philadelphia Street, York 848-6781
Open for quiet meditation and prayer.

St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church - 309 S. George Street, York 845-7629 6:30 - 8 pm
Open House, including music and historic tours of the church that feature the restored paintings on the ceiling.

Trinity United Church of Christ - 32 W. Market Street 854-1933 7 - 9 pm
Open house, including historic tours, music, and light refreshments.
