York County Heritage Trust Artifact Collection

Artifacts in the Museum Collection of the York County Heritage Trust trace the history of the region now comprising York County from its pre-history to the 20th century.  Current collections contain household furnishings and utensils, glass, ceramics, textiles, clothing, agricultural tools and equipment, early vehicles, drawings, paintings, engravings and historical relics.  Objects appropri­ate for these collections include the fine and decorative arts; artifacts relating to historic events or persons; industrial, commercial, and agricultural arti­facts; and artifacts which relate to education, politics, religion, recreation and everyday life in York County.

New Acquisitions

The York County Heritage Trust relies on donated materials that document the lives of Yorkers and the work of the region, up to, and including the present.  The Trust truly appreciates every donation that adds to our extensive collection and helps us fulfill our mission.  It always amazes us that people are willing to donate their prized possessions to the museum so that we may preserve York County’s past for future generations. 

All of the artifact donations offered to the York County Heritage Trust must be approved by the Trust’s Exhibits and Collections Committee prior to the items entering the collection.  The Exhibits and Collections Committee meets every two months.  Many of the new acquisitions that the Exhibits and Collections Committee accept into the collection are put on display in the lobby of the Historical Society Museum.  The new acquisitions exhibit is rotated bi-monthly as new artifacts enter the collection.

When making a donation, please be sure to include as much information as possible on the history of the item, who owned it and when, as well as how the item was used and/or produced.  Additional photographs are helpful as well.
