SPEND A SATURDAY IN 1944! - The York County Heritage Trust is sponsoring a motor coach trip to the 18 th Annual World War II Weekend in Reading, Pennsylvania on Saturday, June 7, 2008 to promote the Trust’s Defending America’s Freedom Project. The Defending America’s Freedom Project honors all York County residents who served in the military through collections of artifacts, written documents and displays at the York County Heritage Trust sites. Additionally, individuals who assisted military efforts on the home front are also honored through the Project. The bus will leave from the South York Plaza at 8:00 AM and return to York at 6:00 PM. The cost of the trip includes the motor coach bus and tickets into the World War II Weekend, where you will receive a complete World War II history immersion experience and feel like you are being transported back in time to 1944! Highlights of the show include a military demonstration convoy; World War II flying demonstrations; 200 military vehicles; famous World War II personalities; 1940’s fashion show; a live radio broadcast drama; much, much more. Participants will be able to purchase lunch on their own at the show and will spend approximately six hours exploring at their own pace. The cost of the motor coach trip is: Adults: $45 for members of the York County Heritage Trust, $50 for non-members; Children (6-12): $35 for members of the York County Heritage Trust, $40 for non-members. September 28, 2008 - October 11, 2008- Come fly with us and explore the magnificent cities of Central and Eastern Europe! For example, discover the fairy tale city of Prague by visiting the amazing Hradcany Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral. Or tour the city of Vienna, a city that showcases some of the most wonderful architectural marvles including St. Stephan's Cathedral and the lavish Schoenbrunn Palace, the summer retreat of the Habsburg dynasty. Remember history when you take a guided tour through the former concentration camp of Auschwitz. Finally, the moving history of Warsaw, both joyous and tragic, is yours to embrace as you embark on a special city tour of this cityal city. Please call Norma Shue for any additional information. October 23 – Friday, October 24, 2008 - The York County Heritage Trust is sponsoring a motor coach trip to Colonial Williamsburg. The highlight of the trip will be viewing Scenes of Everyday Life: The Drawings of Lewis Miller, a temporary exhibit at the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Fork Art Museum in Williamsburg. Participants will receive a special two hour tour of this exhibit, featuring York folk artist Lewis Miller, along with the rest of the museum, hosted by Curator Laura Pass Barry. Dinner will follow at the King’s Arms Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg, known in colonial times as the restaurant where the elite met and ate. Visitor will also be given a two-day pass to tour the restored and reconstructed historical buildings inside Colonial Williamsburg. The bus will leave from the Queensgate Shopping Center at 8:00 AM on Thursday, October 23 and return to York at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 24. Participants will stay overnight in Comfort Inn Central ( Williamsburg, VA) and receive breakfast at the hotel. All other meals (except for Thursday evening’s dinner) will be on your own. The cost for members of the York County Heritage Trust is $200.00 for a double occupancy room and $225.00 for a single occupancy room. For nonmembers the cost is $225.00 for a double occupancy room and $250.00 for a single occupancy room.
