Firefighters, whether from a small town or big city, volunteer or paid, all face the same dangers and make similar sacrifices. The tragedy of September 11th makes us realize how valiant these men and women are, and how they touch all of our lives. It is for this reason that the Board of Directors, staff, members, and volunteers of the York County Heritage Trust's Fire Museum, have chosen to honor the fallen firefighters of New York City on the grounds of the Fire Museum. York County's own history of firefighting is not without its tragedies. These have been memorialized with a statue and monument dedicated to those firefighters lost in the line of duty. It is a permanent testament to their dedication and selflessness in their service to our community. The New York Fire Department memorial will be located nearby this existing monument. With major support from Glen-Gery Corporation, the York County Heritage
Trust will be seeking additional support from members of the community
to meet the remainder of the cost of the engraved bricks. All of the funds
received will be channeled directly into the installation of the memorial.
