The Historical Society of York County was founded in 1895 and became part of the York County Heritage Trust in 1999. The Heritage Trust's Library & Archives houses an extensive and varied collection covering a wide range of topics including genealogy and family history, local history, the decorative arts and military history. All library users; whether a member or not, have access to the Library Edition of Ancestry.com on the YCHT computer terminals in the reading room. This edition is a subscription internet website available only to libraries that allows researchers access to approximately 10 billion genealogical records, including the U.S. Federal Census images and indexes.
Patrons are encouraged to visit and make use of the resources in genealogy, regional history, or other pertinent areas. Library & Archives hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The Library & Archives is closed Sunday, Monday and major holidays. York County Heritage Trust members may use the library without charge; otherwise, the cost is $8 per day. York County students completing research in the Library & Archives are free with a valid student ID.
For individuals over 100 miles away, the Trust offers a program to answer limited reference requests, for a moderate fee, payable in advance and non-refundable. All research services utilize the holdings of the York County Heritage Trust Library & Archives. Click
