The Library & Archives is located on the first floor of the Trust's headquarters at 250 East Market St., York, PA. The collections include books and pamphlets, over 8,500 genealogical surname files, church records, photographs, manuscripts, maps, newspapers, and microfilm. These materials are accessible to the public through various catalogs and indexes located in the reference area. Trained volunteers provide excellent guidance through the collections, retrieve material and make photocopies. Lila Fourhman-Shaull serves as the Director of the Library & Archives. The Library & Archives also offers a research service but does not participate in the Interlibrary Loan Network. The Library & Archives also provides public access to the Library Edition of Ancestry.com.
The collections of the Library & Archives are continually supplemented through the generous gifts of patrons, the support of the South Central Pennsylvania Genealogical Society, and the purchase of new materials in accordance with collecting policies. The Library & Archives accepts material relating to York County, the contiguous areas of Pennsylvania and Maryland, the westward expansion, immigration and emigration, and Pennsylvania history. It also collects other reference material pertaining to the Trust's collections of three-dimensional artifacts including decorative and folk arts, industry, agriculture, clothing, architecture, and lifestyles.
