The YCHT Library & Archives has over 8,500 genealogical surname files. Each surname can be spelled numerous ways and the YCHT surname files reflect many of these variations. Each family file contains various materials for example: newspaper clippings of obituaries, weddings, and engagements; short genealogies (less than 40 pages); family group sheets; pedigree charts; related correspondence and copies of original documents and photos. Submitted over the years, all of this material pertains to that surname. Five sets of index cards accompany each surname file. These cards include abstracts from church records, cemetery tombstone abstractions, will books and Orphans Court dockets (1749-1850); a sampling of pre-1800 tax records; and other selected sources.
We annually see visitors from all 50 states and several countries, who are assisted by well-trained staff and volunteers. A researcher from New York recently stated "It was my third time and each trip has been met with friendly and helpful librarians!" She went on to say "Your family files were bursting with information"
If you are unable to visit the library, we offer a research by mail service. Due to the large volume of requests received, we offer this service to individuals over 100 miles away. This program enables us to answer limited reference requests for a moderate fee as detailed in the prospectus. Each request is limited to one name of an individual.
PLEASE ALLOW SIX (6) TO EIGHT (8) WEEKS FOR A REPLY.
