VISITOR GUIDE - Historical Society Museum
 
 

From quilts to tiny photographs, the Historical Society Museum and Library houses both exhibits and an extensive research library. The building, constructed in 1921 as an automobile dealership, still has the original showroom floor in the spacious two-story entrance hall. William Richley donated the building to the Historical Society in the 1950s. In addition to more than 10,000 square feet of exhibitions, this building also houses the main offices for the York County Heritage Trust.

Current exhibitions:

Pfaltzgraff Exhibit - Currently on loan from the Pfaltzgraff Pottery Company this exhibit features about 175 years of Pfaltzgraff history including jugs, crocks, pitchers, a poultry feeder, bean pot, water cooler and flower pots.
A Place To Call Home - York County at Work, Worship and Play (ongoing)
Street of Shops - Apothecary, Cabinetmaker, and Printer (ongoing)
'A picturesque Looking glass' - The Drawings of Lewis Miller (1796-1882) (ongoing)
Grandfather's Clock: Tall Case Clocks from the Collection (ongoing)
Rutter's Discovery Center for Children - Special interactive exhibit for children generously funded by Rutter's Corp

Hours: Museum: Tuesday - Saturday 10a.m. -4 p.m.
Library: Tuesday - Saturday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
CLOSED: Major Holidays (New Year's Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas)

The building is completely wheelchair accessible.

Directions: From Route 30 take N. George Street into downtown York. Turn left in the square of York onto E. Market Street. Go about 2 1/2 blocks and the Museum will be on your right.
